Mauser C96 Broomhandle

We've got a Mauser C96 that we'd like to list for sale on GB but we know very little about these and are wondering if anyone can help with identification details?















Any info will be greatly appreciated.

  Hello
  I have the possibility to buy a Mauser C96 from a friend that is in need of cash. He'd sell it for $1000. It is in good if not great condition and completely original and all the numbers match. I can track the owners for 40 years. It comes with the holster. but the holster number noes not match the guns. Is 1000 $ a fair price?
  Additionally the holster can be used as a stock. Does this make the C96 a SBR and do I need special documentation and a Tax stamp?

  Looks like a GREAT broomhandle! Try checking out this site with the various markings/sizes on your gun to see which particular model/era of manufacture it is...

  Try to find out if the stock has a serial number on it, most of them that you see these days are reproduction stocks, but you still find a few originals out there.
  Prices can range anywhere from $800 to $3000 depending on the variant/condition! Good luck with finding out some info on it! PS. to find out if it's in 7.63 Mauser or 9MM, stick a 9mm round in nose first from the muzzle. If it goes in and almost hits the brass case, it's a 9MM gun, if it stops before even half the bullet goes into the barrel, it's 7.63mm.

  It's a cone hammer, if I read the serial number right,3014, it was made in 1897. Nice piece, wish it was mine.

  We were thinking it was maybe pre-war (WWII) but, according to that site, the coned hammer ceased being produced in 1899 and since the number on the hammer matches that on the backstrap we're now considering that it may well be that old... I also found another site with details of serial numbers and, according to that one, the numbers on the hammer and backstrap date it to 1897...!

  1897 manufacture would make it a legal antique, ( no FFL required in most States and Cities ), as far as the feds are concerned. This increases it value to collectors substantially.
