Shipping primed brass

Here's a quick question to the experts before I look at the confusing USPS regs.
Can I mail primed brass?
What is the best way to send primed brass to a buyer?

  I think you've gotten a response over on GD. NO, you cannot ship primed cases via USPS. You have to ask your local UPS hub if they consider primed brass as HAZMAT. They are the ones who will decide. Someone on the Internet telling you one way or the other will not get your packaged shipped. I can tell you that primed brass is supposed to be treated just like loaded ammo (no HAZMAT) but your local UPS hub may tell you different. They make the rules. IF you don't like their rules you go somewhere else.

  It is hazmat but can be shipped UPS without any fees. It is treated like ammo but can't be loose so they don't bump each other. You would pack them in original or plastic ammo boxes. There are weight limits 65 or 67 lbs IIRC, can't go to a UPS stored etc. Boxed must me make ORM-D You can give them to your local driver if you have a pre printed label otherwise you will likely have to go to a UPS depot/hub

  Yeah, that's the way it's supposed to work. But, it doesn't always. Once you find a UPS or FedEx hub that actually knows how to do things when it comes to shipping firearms and ammo, use them exclusively, even if it means driving 25 miles out of your way. Or, do what I did. Open your own account and do everything on line. You never have any contact with a UPS clerk or supervisor.

  HAZMAT triggering weight in excess of 66 lbs. 66 lbs or less- NOT HAZMAT in shipping. Do NOT sship by air- UPS Ground. And as said, no US Mail.
  
  AND for folks that ask why you can ship primed brass, but primers alone are HAZMAT- there is no potential for mass detonation of primed brass- the mass of the brass absorbs force of a single primer firing. But a brick of primers- if one goes, they can ALL go.

  The weight of the material has nothing to do with it being a hazardous material or not. It may affect the shipping classification but it is stil HAZMAT.
  
  To answer the original question, primed brass is not regulated by the Department of Transportation as a hazardous material in domestic transportation. The postal service however, forbids its mailing.
