winchester 1893 pump?

I have Winchester 12ga pump shotgun serial# D 292490 which puts it as a model 1893, however the receiver shape is definately that of the 1897, with patent dates up to 1900 on the barrel? anybody got an answer?

  I am not an expert, but I believe 1893's ended around 37000?

  Serial number D 292490 is a July 1905 vintage Model 1897. The highest recorded serial number for the Model 1893 was 34406, and it was a "B" series. The barrel markings on your gun appear to be correct.

  Gun is most likely a Model 1897 made in 1905. Serial number range for a Model 1897 made in 1905: 255,351 to 293,072. All other Winchester shotguns serial numbers except the Model 1912 (Model 12) are too low.

  As I stated before your reply, the gun in question is a July 1905 vintage Model 1897.
  
  Just to clarify and provide the correct information to everyone involved, the Model 1897 serial number range for the year 1905 is actually 269817 - 310112.
