Another Old Colt - Pics
Hi, I actually have two more old Colt's to post up and ask questions on. I don't have the best pictures with me right now, however the image on the cylinder is very clear. Can somone help me out with the exact model and value? I believe it's an 1851. Any help would be appreciated again. Thanks, Brett.

I don't have it in front of me at the moment. However I have three old colts. All of the barrels were in very good condition. Bright bore & tight rifling on all of them. When I get home tomorrow I can take better and more pics! 0 -
Model 1851 Colt Navy revolver, .36 caliber, manufactured in 1857. It appears that all of the blued finish and case colors have been cleaned. It should have a naval battle scene engraved on the cylinder but most of them are worn off. Still, a nice representative piece of history from the Civil War. 0 -
The grips don't look correct to me. Over many years of use the wood tends to darken and oxidize, from residual oil on the hands, and on the handgun.
This is a photo I got off the net to illustrate what I mean.
If in fact the grips aren't original, it tends to raise a red flag. Making folks wonder what has or has not been done to the Colt?0 -

I agree the grips don't look "quite right." But
when bubba someone cleans the metal
they usually figure "might as well do the wood too".
You asked for a value, so I would guess even with the
cleaning at least $700-$800.
