REMINGTON MODEL 12 .22LR

OK, I have a question, I have a nice 1912 REM Model 12, octagon barrel .22LR pump that's been a family hand-me-down. I'd like to know if there's any difference between the Lyman R12 sights and the Marbles R7 sights? I'd like to possibly find one for it and would like your thoughts. I know they're selling high but would appreciate your ideas. Thanks!

  In Nick Stroebel's reference guide "Old Gunsights". All he notes is that these sights were specifically meant for the Remington Model 12. He doesn't go into the differences between them.
  
  As Llama suggested a Remington collector, might be more knowledgeable.

  Hello the campfire. I believe the Lyman and Marbles both look somewhat alike and function the same. They both mount the same with the two receiver screw holes. However...I think the marbles has a third hole towards the rear of the sight that contacts the stock. It is designed for a wood screw. It can be mounted with just the two receiver sights if wanted...it seems a shame to drill and tap the stock with a wood screw. Take care...

  Yes, installing that wood screw is a turn-off, reducing gun value.
  King also made a tang sight for the Rem 12 & 25. This sight doesn't have that rear wood screw. I sold a NIB King not long ago for over $200 and buyer said he would have bid much more.
  I have both Rem 12 & 25 (32-20)rifles and the sight fit both BUT
  the reason I sold the King, and this would also apply to the Marbles, is (proud) wood would have to be trimmed from the wrist of either rifle to lower the sights' tang enabling the sight to bottom on the receiver.
  I didn't want to alter these fine guns.
  If your gun is in VG condition, the stock wood is likely proud with respect to the metal and would need trimming for any maker's tang sight.
