Winchester DOM
I know it's in the forties, but I would like to know the year of my 32 Win Spc model 94 "flat band" rifle. Serial number: 1422219.
I bought it yesterday after looking for a long time for an unaltered Winchester, ie, not drilled and tapped for a scope and no sling.......thanks.
BTW: I need a front sight hood for it if anyone has one..

Looked at the sticky and still couldn't find the dates. If anyone has the info please advise
Model 92 44 wcf Octagon barrel 964xxx (does the barrel make this one rare?)

Because in many cases, there were only a few thousand made in a particular year or years. Additionally, there is no valid reason not to provide a complete serial number when asking for a date of manufacture... especially when you are asking about a Winchester.0 -
Bert does research gratis on Winchesters. If you want information you hav 2 choices #1 Buy one of the books he wrote and published or go to him for your answer. He has all the records on Winchester and can give you month and day your gun went to the polishing room If you do not want to give the forum your complete serial# then double click on Bert's user name and send him a personal email with your serial number. Personally if you want information you need to give us information unless you stole the 2 guns[V][:(!]
EDIT I suggested a second option contact Bert via personal email Are You PARANOID I think yes URBAN LEGEND I have heard for 50 + years It is up to you but I post pictures with serial numbers . Where some people get in trouble is LUGER PISTOLS because thei serial number is normally a 4 digit number that changed every mont back and stared over Thus 50 different guns could have the same 4 digit number lugers need the letter code as well as YEAR date . you also need a copy of the complete serial number and pictures with date on EVERY GUN YOU OWN.0 -

There's no good reason to use xxx if you're looking for information or any other good reason that I know of.0 -
I've been around enough to know that Bert's expertise is invaluable to all of us wanting information about old Winchesters.
No reason not to produce full serial numbers? Here is my thought. Tell me If I'm crazy or not.
With all the thiefs and scam artists out there, why provide someone in an open forum with a serial number to a gun they can now claim as their missing or stolen gun. I can see a whole can worms opened up for legitimate honest owners having to defend how they came about a specific firearm.
I have several that I inherited and no paperwork or history at all. I know they were obtained in a fair and honest transaction but I would hate to have to explain my ownership.
Just my thoughts. Crazy? Paranoid?0 -

There are no documented cases of that happening. A thief would have to prove they owned the gun before you did which would be impossible. Besides, they could go to any gun show and get thousands of serial numbers and report any of them as their stolen gun but I've never heard of that happening, either.
Look at the auction side. Plenty of guns showing full serial numbers.0 -

Very good point. Never thought of the gun show thing. I was thinking of someone doing internet forensic and coming up with I.P. address and then having a persons name, model number and serial number to claim theft.
If its never been done, I hope I have not given anyone ideas...haha.
