securing guns in a safe with a cable
A friend had his house broken into today and 3 guns were stolen. It's got me paranoid now even though I have a 600lb or bigger safe. Is there any add-on, brand-neutral system for cabling your guns inside a safe?

I am sorry but don't understand what you intend to do with a cable . If they take your safe and then get it open a cable can be cut with a grinder. Now if you are talking about electric cable hooked to an alarm system you have many good options. 0 -
A cable isnt gonna make it.
a alarm switch on the safe door is one option but you have to remember nothing is theft proof, locks just keep honest people out.0 -
Is your safe bolted to the floor/wall? If not it needs to be.
If your safe is of any quality at all, it should be enough deterrent. The average burglar wants to get in and out as quickly as possible and won't mess with a sturdy safe. If a true professional takes the time to defeat the safe a locked cable inside would be no more than a nuisance. You would be better served having an alarm system installed with door/window switches, broken glass ribon and if the installer is capable a door pin switch on the interior of the safe.0 -
Most safes are built to be modular on the inside. 600 pounds is not all that heavy. The floor panel will lift up from the inside, exposing 4-8 holes depending on your safe. Use them, and LAG it to the floor.

Better off hiding the safe. Get like a tall cabinet, gut it and place it infront of the safe. Also bolting that silly thing to the cement floor would be a good start. 0 -
I have my safe which is around 1200 pounds empty. I also then bolted it with 4 lag bolts. Also, underneath the floor, I have it completely filled up with extra bags of lead shot in bags which adds another ~300 pounds. I have a motion sensor INSIDE the safe, and motion sensor in the room, as well as door pins and window sensors. I have one other battery powered/wired trip of my own making that I won't divulge here. Lastly, I have an infared camera system which stores the data stream both on and off-site.
I work midnights and my wife works days so we are fairly well occupied.0 -
So what I was initially thinking is that if they somehow got the door open then there might be some more measure of security. But now I see that that was kind of looking at the problem from the wrong direction and sort shooting from the hip.
I don't really want to say what my current security and configuration situation is, but you guys have given me some good food for thought on some extra measures that I can take. Thanks a ton!0 -
I don't believe in gun safes for security, although I do have 3 of them.
I do believe in security trip switches and my safes have cinder blocks in them for the crooks to play with until help arrives.
My one safe has a pink dye bomb that when the door is opened the intruder leaves looking like the pink panther.
This works for me.

I had a cable on 8 of my rifles.I lost the key,so I took my $15.00 pair of bolt cutters and cut the cable.Nuff said.
