need advice - Winchester model 70 experts

I am thinking of purchasing a pre 64 Winchester model 70 (standard grade). The gun looks to be in very fine condition - all original. The grip has a black grip cap that appears to be factory/original but I don't recall ever seeing another 70 have this unless it was a super grade. (sorry, no pictures available)
Is it possible that it was a factory option then (1949 model year) or perhaps someone at the factory was able to add their own features to their own guns?
Any help is appreciated to determine if this was a modification or possibly original. Thank you.

Standard grade model 70s did not have a grip cap.

It's not conclusive, but every standard grade Model 70 stock that I'm familiar with, which includes production 1936,37,41,48,53,60 &62, none of them had a grip cap. 0 -
It was not uncommon for employee guns to have some special touches that were certainly not in the catalog ! This happened in all the factories that were making guns " back in the day " . 0
