AK's legal to buy in New York State?
Is it legal to buy or own an AK in the State of NY? A bidder from New York is interested in one I have for sale. I told him to check with his FFL about a legal transfer/sale before bidding. Also, I cannot ship him a 30 round magazine, right?

Made before September of 1994, yes, it is legal, in any configuration. Made after that date, it cannot be shipped with a high capacity magazine(unless it can be proven it too, was made before September 1994), any muzzle device must be blind pinned, and welded over the pin(NO ACCESS TO THREADS), and no bayonet lug. If it has any ONE of those it cannot have a pistolgrip stock, and no folders or collapsable stocks.

Thanks for the info. The AK in question is a SAR-1. Non-threaded muzzle, ground bayonet lug, and fixed pistol grip stock. Originally sold with enough US parts to be 922r compliant. My take is it's OK for NY State if sold with a 10 round or less capacity mag. 0 -
You have it correct.

Golferboy/Mark,
Thanks for the compliments. I have had a hand in the Firearms business here in New York State, since 1988. I don't know all the laws, but know how to find them. It also helps having contacts, such as friends and relatives in several law enforcement agencies, within the County, State, and Federal levels, along with the Judiciary system.
Actually one of the said above is retired from the US NAVY, retired from USPS, worked with several local PD's, has an apple farm, works for the town DOT per deim, sits on the town justice bench, and has a full service gun shop. Unfortunately about 6 weeks ago, he made all the way to the international news, when his shop was robbed of 62 low end handguns. New Yorks Laws are not helping him there, but the NYS State Police, and the feds have been great. So if anyone hears anything, there is a $10K reward put up by the feds and firearms industry.
NY State AW regulations are tricky, more so in some ways than those in CA and tsr1965 is one of our forums go to guys when it comes to NY laws. His assistance in our forum is always appreciated.0 -
