M1A ejection issue-Help
I have a late production Springfield Armory M1A. Bought it a few months ago. The gun has a issue with ejection. I am using USGI 7.62 Nato ammo by the way. About one in three rds were not ejecting correctly and as result the case gets caught in the action as it closes. I called Springfield and they thought it was the ejector in the bolt. I have a spare ejector and replaced the one in the bolt.( by the way the bolt in the gun is marked "SA", but don't know if its a GI bolt or one of their commercial copies), in any case this did help some but I am still getting one in five rds that jam the bolt. Well against their advise I replaced the bolt with a "TRW" spare and cured the problem. My question is what is the issue with the other bolt? The ejector seems to be working as it should but obviously is not. Any suggestion on fixing it.

I had the same problem and it was worn out extractor! If the rifle is new send it back for replacement. If you can remove the extractor and do an inspection with a loop you will be able to see that it is deformed or worn. Take the extractor out of the TRW and slip it into the SA bolt and see what happens!

Welcome to the world of SA M1A's. We've had some of them that have had reliability issues over the past year or so brought up on thses boards. QC seems to be lacking...which makes the $1,200+ you spent on it infuriating.
I'd send it (the bolt) back to SA explaining the problems and demand they fix it.0 -
It's most likely still your ejector. Replace if with a NEW usgi or, Buy a PB ejector for a M1 garand. These are excellent ejector's & fit perfect. 0 -

I've had & still have a few Springfield M1As. The extrator on each I have now was a problem, 1 didn't work from the start and the other lasted about 100 unreliable rounds before dying. I bought a few PB extractors and they work perfectly. My suggestion would be to pick up one, install it and see if that takes care of the issue.0
