Opps. I was reminded that the above new models should also be available in 223.

I am unsure why one would want to change the Garand at all. Currently there are millions out there in 30-06 and 100s of millions of surplus 30-06 rounds, much of it in enblocs. I do not see the advantage of going to a lessor powered round and tinkering with a proven mechanism and loading system.

Regarding the 1903, why go to 10 rounds when 25 is already available?[:)]

Sigh...I knew the cult of the 30-06 would not like any tinkering with the classics. I'm not talking about converting old guns. And I'm not debating the 30-06 is a great caliber. I hunt with a 30-06. I'm talking about NEW guns that would be legal even with an assualt weapons and high-cap magazine ban. Why 223 & 308? 85% of the world's militaries use 5.56x45 & 7.62x51. Many police departments use them. No matter what craziness might happen, ammo for them will be around. How many militaries and law enforcement agencies use 30-06? Not many. If they did I'd advocate for 30-06. I'm sure the 30-06 guys will hoard thousands of rounds, but how much can you carry if there is no gas for your car and you have to move? The 2nd Amendment is about more than just hunting and collecting old guns. Somebody has to have firearms which use the current military calibers.

CMP still had some last time I checked, and have been selling millions of rounds over the past 10 years. A quick look at the auction side shows a lot of auctions, though the pricing is certainly not what it was 5 years ago.
