SIR the first thing you need to do is BUY a reloading manual. The diameter is only one of many things you MUST have correct to keep from making dangerous ammo. ever reloading manual will have the correct diameter bullet correct type and amount of powder used the correct number of the correct Primer. . asking for advice if great but you need to have it in writing from a reliable SOURCE. like the people that make reloading equipment and supplies.

The Sterling AR-180 has a 1 in 14" twist barrel so you will get best results with bullets (regular lead core) of 55 grains or lighter. Mine had a very tight chamber so a small base sizing die was needed.

Yup, 50-55 gr bullets will work in both your Armalite and your Ruger.

I think you are refering to weight.

In my Mini-14, the 55 grain work best. In my S&W and LWRC with 1 in 8" twists, they prefer the heavier 62 grain.

Buy some ammunition in different weights, shoot them to see which weight your guns like best, and then using the manuals, develop loads in those weights.
