Only thing(s) I can think of are the hammer and magazine, as long as the barrel has been removed. Lot of them were rough as a cob internally. With the mag out try tapping the rear of the slide gently with a plastic hammer or piece of wood, while depressing the trigger.

Rufe is right. I have an Astra 1000s and a rubber mallet is needed to remove the slide usually after everything else is done.

Thanks guys, much appreciated! I hate to force something and end up messing it up. I'll give it a shot.

got it part way but still not completely out. Appears to be a small metal slat that is under left side grip and thru small slot on side frame that impeades slide removal. I took it out but still hung up.

That's likely what is known as the disconnector. It's attached to the trigger assembly, and shouldn't impede the removal of the slide.
