Time to get a purchased item from GB???
I will keep this simple and relate it to an accessory (not a firearm that requires an FFL transfer).
I noticed many sellers do not take Paypal, or any Credit/Debit Cards so, if I were to send a Money Order, as oppossed to the controversial Personal Check, how long would it take for the seller to generally send my purchased accessory item to me?

Depends entirely on the seller. We have no way of giving you any kind of estimate in this matter.
Best work it out with the vendor, prior to sending the MO. With the gun and ammo panic of the last month. Some stuff is back ordered for months, it just isn't obtainable, in any reasonable amount of time.
I've recently ordered stuff that been advertised, and payed up front with a CC. To be told that it's unobtainable from the distributor/manufacturer.0 -
So far trhe answers make sense. I have a feeling it comforts the seller if I were to use U.S. Postal Money Orders.... 0 -
Yes, most sellers prefer the security of a USPS MO. About 10 years ago the PO changed to a higher level of security paper, & their MO's are now extremely difficult to counterfeit. But, most PO's don't keep enough cash on hand to redeem a high $ MO, so the seller still needs to take it to his bank to be cashed.
Personal checks really only take 2-3 days to clear, as they are now processed electronically. But, some banks will take 2 weeks to notify you that there is a problem with a check, so a prudent seller will wait 2-3 weeks to be sure that it is good.
Paypal, a subsidiary of the anti-gun ebay, does not permit its use for guns, or anything close to "guns". They will arbitrarily freeze your account (& money) if they find out you used them to pay for a gun-related transaction. Plus, they charge the 3% or so fee that CC companies charge. If a seller is a hobbyist who only makes occasional sales, he isn't going to bother with a CC.
Finally, some sellers live in rural areas where common carriers don't usually go, & they may live many miles from a PO. So, rufe-snow's answer is probably the most "correct" way to look at it.

I think that GunBroker should Require that the Seller have the item in
stock when listed., and show actural photos of the item that is being listed.
NO CANED PHOTOS.
Then show a shipping Time limit.
We have sellers that dose not order the item until it is sold.and some even Drop-ship from their vender.0 -
A lot of the sellers on here are not engaged in a store, or business, but are individuals. Some of them are not set up to take Credit/Debit cards.
I am one of those. I prefer USPS Money order, followed only by a cashiers check. NO PERSONAL Checks. If I recieve a personl check, I send it back, once, and request that the buyer send either form of payment that was requested in the auction. Reason for no personl checks, is that it takes twice as long for them to clear my bank, as a cashiers check, and te buyer is wondering where their merchandise is. I WILL NOT send any merchandise, before the payment clears.
I always send the merchandise within 24 hours of the payment clearing, unless I happen to be out of town. This varies by seller, and their experience. A lot of guys have it set up, so when the auction closes as SOLD, that it automatically prints the shipping charges from the preferred carrier.
You have recieved some very good advice in previous posts.

I'm a GB seller and buyer. I always check out the other guy, using the posted feedback. You can tell the character of the guy if you read the feedback comments. There are many times when I will ship an item as soon as I'm contacted by the buyer. He will often get it before I get his payment. I have also had sellers ship to me the next day. Maybe we are simple, ignorant, trusting, farmers but I have yet to be stiffed - and I've never stiffed anyone.

Believe it or not, money order is the fastest way to go. All the credit cards are taking many days to process the claim. Paypal, for non firearm items, is taking up to four business days to process. You can have a MO sent by USPS priority and have it there in two days. It's good as soon as you cash it.
Those are the fastest turn around times for me when I sell something, taking a MO.0 -
I'm primarily a buyer...so here's my point of view. I rarely buy from a seller who will not accept a personal check. I live on a rural farm....a trip to the PO for a money order will take 2.5hrs out of my day, and since I'm always buying small part's, I could never comply. I don't mind waiting till the seller is satisfied, But in fact, I deal with the same seller's so much, they just mail it out. One seller I deal with has well over 3k sale's, prefer's check's & has never been stiffed. Different stroke's I guess !! As far as CC's go, is that alot of storefront's won't take them in there auction's...but do in there store's. I will never deal wioth these people. 0 -
