22 hornet from .223?
Has anyone had any experience with chamber adapters allowing you to shoot smaller caliber ammo in a larger caliber gun? At question is an insert that allows shooting a .22 hornet in a .223 caliber rifle. Would it damage the rifle or no?

Sometimes they work really well. My model 53 S&W was born with them to allow shooting 22LR in the 22 Jet (RCFM). I would prefer stainless steel construction over aluminum, and rifled if shot as a sub caliber. Be prepared for some loss in accuracy in some combinations due to long bullet travel prior to engaging the rifling, not quite correct bullet diameter or weight.
Could be handy in hard times, for cheaper trigger time or for less noise and recoil for new shooter; as small game getters.0 -
22 hornet is both more expensive and less accurate(when used with such an adaptor) than .223. Better spend your money on a simple reloading setup and download some .223 if that's your goal. 0 -
Thanks men. I was just wanting a .22 hornet to add to the cabinet and thought this might be a cheap way to scratch the itch. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and wait for a good deal on the auction side.

If you wan a real sweetheart of a 22 Hornet, look for a good used T/C Contender Carbine. I have one, and acquired it used , with awesome walnut, and a Leupold VX-III, 2.5-8x, for $600.00. I will NEVER get rid of it. Mine is not the G2 either, but the one before it.

Right about accuracy and the adapters I've tried!
You can make your 223 go from 22 mag velocities to its normal velocities by reloading! I squirrel hunt with a 223 cal (at 22 mag velocities/reduced noise level) and also use the same gun for long range varmits (3100 FPS) using a leupold scope with a fast adjust elev marked dial. The Left Right is right on not requiring any change.
I've tried rifle caliber adapters and could not achieve desired hunting accuracy.0 -
If you got the budget, reload and want accuracy look into the 22K-Hornet.
