Picatinny mount on Weaver Base?

I'm considering getting a scope that has the ring portion of the mount attached that I am interested in mounting on a M700 SA that has Weaver Bases. I've read that Picatinnies are very similar to Weavers except for the number of slots that increase the attachment positions- Would it be expected that the Picatinny mount would fit the Weaver bases?

  The grooves on th Weaver bases are slightly smaller (.108") than those on a Picatinny rail (.206"). If you use a Weaver base and try to mount rings designed for a Picatinny base the cross piece that fits in the grooves will be too wide. Using Weaver rings in a Picatinny base will work, but will not fit tightly in the grooves and may allow movement front to back.
