According to the S & W book. "Slide/barrel assembly of the 46 can interchange with the 41, but not the reverse".

OK, I think you just said "yes, a 46 barrel will fit onto a 41" right?

I'm bidding on a 46 barrel on the auction side so I can put a red-dot on it to shoot in the bullseye league at my club this year. It's existing "optics" (my 57 year old eyeballs) don't work as well as maybe they once did.

    Thanks, Rufe

I just borrowed a 41 to check it it. All you have to do is to lock back the slide and pull down the trigger guard. The barrels are easily removeable and exchanged. I tried two different barrels, full size and sport.

EDIT #1, The barrels I checked were not marked as to a specific model. All that is on them is, "Smith & Wesson", "22 Long Rifle Cartridge".

Before you take a model 46 barrel and drill & tap it you might consider that ALL model 46 parts are collector items,if in good shape . If you can buy one cheap resell it and use that money to get an aftermarket S&W barrel CLARK. that already comes ready for a red dot sight.

Rufe: Thanks for the extra effort. I'm already bidding so was stuck if my assumption was incorrect. Pretty sure it would fit but, strangely, I've been wrong before.

Perry: Thanks, seller says it's been re-blued but bore is good "as new" so I'm guessing it has little collector interest. I'll look into the Clark though.

    Thanks, guys.

I don't have a 46 to check, but my SWAG is that you cannot use a 46 barrel on a 41 unless you also have a 46 slide.

    Just saying...
