Question for S&W experts??
Did the model 16-4 come in nickle?

According to the S & W book, no. 0 -
Doubt that nickel-finish was a factory option, though its always possible someone had one nickle-plated.
Whole Smith model 16 was never really that popular, and the 16-4 in particular wasn't made for very long, just through 1990-1992. .32 magnum just has limited general appeal.
These are rare enough that there is some collector's interest, with correspondingly high prices.0 -
A prototype or special order is always a possibility with S&W. But, a factory nickel finish gun from that era would have an N stamped on the barrel, cylinder, & frame.

Neal is 100% correct, if it doesn't have an N stamp, it's not a Factory S&W job.
