Remington 1100LW Help
I recently purchased a used but pristine Remington 1100LW 28 Ga shotgun. I cleaned the gun and test fired it using some Rio ammo with absolutely no problems. I cleaned the gun again and then, yesterday, took it afield for the first time. I fired about a box of Winchester High Brass game loads through it and the gun again functioned flawlessly. However, when I brought it home and started cleaning it I ran into a problem. While removing the barrel from the action I heard a "clink" noise and saw something fall loose in the action. I fished my finger inside and pulled out a piece of metal measuring 3/4" X 3/4" X 1/4". It's curved on the bottom to ride on top of the magazine tube; it's flat on one end; and beveled on the opposite end. The top has a slight round groove in it to accommodate the barrel. Upon examination, it appears this piece was brazed into place on top of the mag tube just in front of the ejection port where the tube meets the action. I believe the beveled end goes toward the muzzle and the flat end rests against the lip of the action, but I'm not sure. Again, I think it should be brazed into place and not loose. (Sorry, I don't have my camera or I would post some pics.) I don't have any manuals or paperwork for this gun, so I'm hoping some of you 1100 fans can tell me what's wrong with my shotgun and answer the following questions. 1) What is going on with my gun? 2) What's the purpose of this small part? 3) Should this piece be brazed into place or does it simply rest in place on top of the mag tube? 4) Will this issue require a factory repair or is there an 1100 expert somewhere who can fix the gun? 5) I don't plan to shot the gun until it's repaired, but would I damage the gun by firing it with this piece missing? 6) Any thoughts or recommendations? I think you are looking at the fore-end support. And I think it just lays on top of the tube. 0 -
No, it's not Part #48, Fore end support. It actually looks like the part was welded to the mag tube and broke free. I'll try to get a camera tomorrow and post some pictures. 0 -
it locates on the rear of mag tube,inside receiver. it can be soldered back on.
i have done a couple in the past.0 -
If you can get a guarantee on the repair, do it otherwise let Remington
handle the stripped receiver and magazine tube + loose part.0
