Back? Where did you get it? What manufacturer receiver?

EDIT1: Do the witness marks on the barrel & receiver align? I'm thinking that either the receiver threads were damaged & the "gunsmith" forced the new barrel without fixing it, or maybe crossthreaded the barrel into the receiver.
EDIT2: While there are many skilled gunsmiths, usually only a service trained armorer will have the special tools & fixtures to repair a serious problem with an M1 rifle. If your local guy doesn't impress you with his Garand experience, consider:

Have you tried a boresight to see where the Barrel is pointing? This may give you an idea where the problem is located.

Sounds like the new barrel wasn't installed correctly; it needs to be tightened slightly. And no, Garand receivers do not have index marks.

A competent gunsmith needs to check - and probably correct - that installation. The slight tightening that may be required will also change headspacing so be sure to remind him to check that also.

Good luck. Garands are a pure joy to own and shoot.

That sounds better. Thank you. I am going to take it to a real gunsmith. Too much to send it back from here.Plus, I dont trust the seller. Had alot of problems with him.
