Marlin 1894CL problem

I have a Marlin 1894cl and the lever will not open at all. It feels like it is blocked somehow.
Any idea what caused this. I have taken the lever off and put it back but that is all I have done

  Maybe a round is under the #9 carrier/lifter, or some part is loose inside. If you force stuff you will break things. There is not a live round in the chamber? You are sure! Check with cleaning rod down the bore with the hammer down gentely first.

  Ok so hold lever shut, shake rifle in various positions - listen for metal clanking on metal sound. Can you push in on the loading gate enough to see inside.

  check the loading gate spring screw. it is on the right hand side.

  Thanks for the advice guys. There is NO round in the chamber.
  How do I check for any loose parts? The only thing I know how do do is remove the lever and put it back on. Also I do not believe in forcing anything.

  the only things holding it together is screws... righty tighty...lefty losey

  I had the same thing happen on my 1895 a few weeks back. A friend was shooting at the time. I'm wondering if he worked the lever too hard and caused the lever to somehow jam the bolt in its rearward position. Whatever caused it, I'm not sure, but removing the lever and bolt as I would for cleaning took care of it.
