Using an out of state FFL
I live in LA just across the state line from MS. Can I have a gun shipped to an FFL in MS or do I have to have it shipped to an FFL here in LA since I am a LA resident? Please only answer if you really know. Thanks!

long gun: if its legal in both states, you can acquire a long gun froma dealer in any state, not just in your state of residence. so if its legal in california(and i truly have no idea if it is, but it doesnt seem like much is) and its legal in the other state, then your good to go.
handgun: you must acquire handguns in your state of residence, so if its a handgun it has to go to a california ffl.
my geography is a little sketchy, but where does california share a border with mississippi?

Rifles and handguns have different requirements. A rifle could be transferred to you by a FFL in MS, as long as your State allowed it. Not so a handgun, it would have to be shipped to a FFL in LA. 0 -

If it is a long gun and you are 20 steps from the Mississippi state line, have it sent to him and you go buy it at his place of business. No problem there.
If it is a handgun, it MUST be transferred to your state where you can take possession of it, per FEDERAL law.
I highlight that last, because some states have different rules. As I understand it, LA does not. Added: There may be more rules to that. But, the very least you will have to do is receive it in your state.0 -
