S&W Model 41 Grip Screws
I have a S@W Model 41 manufactured probably late 1980s. Years ago I obtained a set of custom grips that required fitting, so I dropped the gun and grips off at a shop for the work.
Apparently long forgotten was the fact that the custom grips came with their own screws, and it seems the original screws were not returned. I wish to reinstall the original grips and find that original screws are unobtainable from S&W, Numrich (Gun Parts Corp) etc. S&W says the parts are obsolete and screws for new 41s are not the same. My voice mail message to the maker of the original grips (Altamont made them for S&W) went unanswered. I even checked every screw at the local Lowe's to no avail.
Does anyone here know where I can find screws to fit?

I don't know what thread/size they are but I have found that Automotive Speed Shops often carry odd or obsolete screw thread combos.
I found some for a Milwaukee chain saw that nobody, not even Milwaukee, carried because of some unusually fine threads at a Speed Shop, they actually had the dies to make pretty much anything I wanted.

Thanks, Dan...I'll check it out. -Steve 0 -
You might try an outfit called "fastenal" They have stores around the country and carry a large array of odd sized screws. (or send me a sample) 0 -
I didn't know about "fastenal" but there is one nearby...thanks 0 -
another source of fine threaded screws is an OFFICE MACHINE repair and service shop. When I worked for IBM we had a TYPEWRITER division that had all kinds of small diameter long screws Take one of your longer screws from the custom grips so they can match up diameter and threads.
ALSO TRY BROWNELLS and Champions Choice shooters supply.0 -
Do you have a local gunsmith? They should be able fix you up. I have made large head screws by turning down shanks and re threading large screws.
Have a local Tacoma store. They got me a 4-40? tap so I could tap my bushed cartridge guide in the SRC back to the factory screw.

I dug through my references. The data I got was that it's a #3 size screw. The threads are 48 to the inch and it's 1 inch long. 3/48 is a extremely fine thread, most likely going to be special order. 0 -
thanks to everyone for the helpful replies. 0 -
Brownells has 3-48 screws. Check their item 080-050-348WB. 0 -
