colt 6430 and 6450

What is the differance between the 6430 and 6450. I have a chance to buy a 6430 like new for $1800 serial # is really low. Does anyone know when these where made I have heard late 70's early 80's and early 90's only.

  The only difference that I can see is that the R6450 is a lite weight version by approximately 3/4 pound.

  I don't think some of that's right the 6450 is new than the 6430 and the 6430 I'm looking at doesn't have a baynetlug.

  The 6450 is a shorty with sliding butt originally made 1985-1987, according to The AR-15 Complete Owner's Guide by Walt Kuleck. The same book indicates that the 6430 is a shorty with an A2 butt, made from 1992-?.
  
  Colt AR model production starts & stops, depending upon orders. So, a serial number often helps determine year of production. Also, features of any model change over time, & is also dependent upon exactly what is in the parts bins. The only thing certain is that Colt does not throw away usable parts.
  
  The rifle you are looking at may or may not be original; we can't tell from here. For $1800 I'd hope that it is NIB.
