The Polytech M1A uses military-specification magazines so any magazine for the M14 and its clones will work fine. During the previous ban, the many Polytech magazines on the market were a savior for many M1A owners.

Chicom mags can be identified by their silver matte finish, & no markings. They work as well as USGI mags.

Taiwanese mags also work well; they are heavy gauge steel with a polished blue finish.

USGI mags are gray/black with the manufacturers ID stamped on the spine. Checkmate Industries (CMI) makes current issue USGI mags, & are widely available.

Avoid light gauge steel mags that have raised bosses on the spine, rather than the milspec welded locking plate; they just won't work.

Yes stand mags will work in the poly tech guns. Some of those were shipped with 2 5 rnd mags and what looked like a 20 rnd mag but had a piece of metal attached to the follower limiting it to 5 rnds. A simple process to disassemble the mag, break the spot welds or dremel it off and have a 20 rnd mag.

+1 on the Checkmate (CMI) magazines, they are the best available.

I have read some positive reviews on the Promag version, but I have not tried them.

Mainland Chinese M14 magazines were finished with zinc phosphate. USGI, including CMI, M14 magazines have a manganese phosphate finish. Most, not all, USGI M14 magazines have a manufacturer marking. I bring this up because there are some M14 fans that suffer unnecessary anxiety when they don't find a manufacturer makring on a genuine USGI magazine.
