Ted Williams model 53 30/06
Hey guys can you answer a question, I just bought a Ted Williams model 53 30/06. I dont know alot, Thats why I'm here, but this gun looks like it came right out of the Winchester factory, -position safety, looks of the bolt,ect. My question is how do you tell the date made by the serial # ? Here are the #'s I found. No273.532061 and U152485 any help out there? Thanks and Merry Christmas[8D]

It did come right out of the Winchester factory but is not numbered in the Winchester series. I have not seen a listing for the Sears branded rifles. 0 -
If it's marked Ted Williams it would date to the early 60's, at the earliest. Sears changed the name of their "Store Brand" guns from J.C. Higgins to Ted Williams during that time frame. The only other way you can narrow it down is if it's a pre or post 64 Model 70. 0 -
Are you sure that's not a model "73"?? The Ted Williams/sears version of a Win 70. 0 -

No.273.532061 lists as a NEW Winchester Model 70, per GunParts, (Numrich), catalog. So, probably a post-'64. Sweet, anyway you look at it.

Why?
I know a Winchester when I see one, and a Ted Williams is a Winchester. And a post-64 for sure. Prior to that, Sears sold bolt actions on FN, Husqvarna, and maybe Sako actions.0 -
A Ted Williams Model 53 is a Win Mod 70. Sears used their own serial numbers, and there are no date of manufacture records for them. 0 -
Thanks for all the input, going to put some work in the stock and maybe some trigger work, and I think I'll shoot paper and cans till the grandkids get old enough for it.
