The first number is just that - the sum of hte total points shot on the targets.

2391-141x means that a total of 2391 points were shot - not sure on what the max score is.

The second number wiht the X indicate how many dead center bullseyes were shot - they still count as 10 points like the 10 ring, but in case of a tied "main" score they are used to determine the winner/looser.

So in this case of 2391-141x it means that there were 141 dead center shots.

The pistol scores are out of 2700 possible.
The 2600 Club is great. The 2650 Club is very small.

Pretty simple if you're familiar with the targets involved (see below).

    First number is total score.

The "X" number refers to number of "X"s the shooter hit.

"X"s still count as ten points, but can be used as tiebreakers. If two shooters have the same numerical score, then the one with the higher "X" score wins.

Incidentally, its my understanding that nobody has EVER shot a perfect 2700.

so in the case of pistol shooting the total shots fired are 270? Everyone get 270 shots?

"so in the case of pistol shooting the total shots fired are 270? Everyone get 270 shots?".................There are different 'possible' scores for different matches (high power rifle, pistol, .22 rifle)as well as different ranges.
most 'pistol' matches have 300 possible points
100 for 'slow fire' (10 shots in 10 moin.) no 'X' ring
100 for 'timed fire' (10 shots, 2 strings of 5 in 20 seconds)
100 for 'rapid fire' (as above, in 10 seconds)

so there are 300 possible points with 20 possible 'X's'= 300/20x

    That's correct.

The contest is divided into three separate courses of fire (with different required calibers), each in three parts, each part three targets, each target ten shots. Do the math and that's 2700 total scorable points.

You can read quite a bit more about what's involved here:

In the standard 270 point bull's eye pistol course there are three guns used.

.22 long rifle. Revolvers are legal but virtually never used.
Centerfire-can be .32 cal are larger. Some shoot .45 in this stage.
    .45 Must be .45 cal.

In what we used to call the National Match in High Power rifle shooting the course of fire was:

10 shots slow fire standing at 200 yards
10 shots sitting rapid fire at 200 yards
10 shots prone raid fire at 300 yards
20 shots prone slow fire at 600 yards.

This gave a maximum of 500 points. I am not sure what combination of the different stages make up the National Match Championship Aggregate.
