Winchester A5 scope adjustment
I have finally got around to mounting an A5 on my 1885 low wall. It has been a long search for the correct pieces. Now that its mounted the reticule is not square in the tube(more of an X than cross-hairs). I see no option but to take it apart and try to rotate it. Has any one ever disassembled one of these or is it a job for professionals only. There is a line in an old Unertl manual that says"There are only two individuals taking scopes apart... the man who knows and the fool". I would aspire to be the former but not the latter.

Just turn the scope in the mounts until it's crosshair instead of X.
I should have looked closer at the one I picked up,, it was the 8X not the A50 -
The A5 has a groove that tracks in the mounts as it moves in recoil. Rotating the tube is not an option.
I know some BPCR shooters have had to adjust and glue the reticles in their modern reproductions. You might ask on the Shiloh or ASSRA boards.0 -

Years ago, I installed crosshairs in an A5 and a Litschert Targetspot.
Edmund Scientific had the almost invisible wire.
As I recall there is a screw a few inches forward of the eyepiece that captures the reticule cell in the tube. Under it is a washer covering a large hole in the tube. Loosening the screw a turn will allow adjustment of the cell. That's the only radial adjustment of the reticule cell.
If this doesn't do it, the wires may have been wrapped around the mtg screws CCW instead of CW.
As previously mentioned, the scope is keyed to the mount preventing rotation.0
