So i was looking at an sks locally on armslist seller said he wanted 400 for it, is this about right for a nice norinco or no the market just seems too crazy to get a stable price range lately 0 -
Conditon...condition...condition....most important. Without photos, hard to tell. But the big elephant in the room now since the CN school shootings, is the reappearance of the assault weapons ban from the US Congress. Her "her highness" the Queen of San Francisco announce that she is going to put it forward again. Who knows what that means but it could lead to a repeat of what we went through previously so that SKS at $400 could be a real buy several months down the road. I will tell you that I have quite a few Norinco SKS's and like them all...but they are not the quality of the Russian models IMO. Good luck[:)] 0 -
Value of Chinese SKS rifles depends on where you are located and their condition. Yes, some people are asking $400 for these now, but unless the gun is a rare variant or absolutely tricked out with lots of bells and whistles, you can still find them for quite a bit less.
On gun bans, the Dems can make all the noises about this they like, its not going to happen under the current Congress. The Republicans control the House, and they control the House agenda, and they're not going to vote through any gun ban.
The Dems also know that its a losing issue for them in most of the country, and there are still plenty of Dems who want to keep their seats and won't vote for this sort of thing. Even when the Dems had the White House, House *and* Senate early in Obama's term, they couldn't pull this off. They're not going to be able to do so now.
Lastly, stock SKS rifles lack pistol grips and they lack detachable magazines. So they are not "assault" rifles under any current or former definition of same. They're just "ordinary" semi-auto rifles, explaining why they are still legal just about everywhere.

Talk. And a lot of this talk is driven by people with a vested interest in selling guns. All the gun and ammo dealers remember how much money they made four years ago during the first Obama gun panic. Turns out nothing got banned, and lots of people (retrospectively) ended up overpaying for guns and ammo they could have bought cheaper later.
Obama doesn't have the legal authority to ban gun sales by executive order, nor does he have the ability to enforce such a ban. He's also more than smart enough to know the huge political price he'd pay for trying a stunt like this.
What he may do are a bunch of small backdoor type actions, making it harder to import guns, harder to import ammo, continue to crack down on indoor ranges via the EPA (as he has been doing the last four years), but an outright ban. . .not going to happen.
Incidentally, importation of Chinese made SKS rifles has been banned for years, but there were a TON of them imported before then, and there are lots still around.
If you look at the auction site, plenty of them still appear to be changing hands under $350, and a few closer to $300. IMO the Yugo guns are actually better built, but a lot of them are beat up and saw real military use with corrosive ammo, so you have to be a bit careful about which you get if you want a good "shooter".

Jump on it, not likely there going to be any cheaper in the future.
That's for sure.
I think lots of us remember when you could buy these in any quantity you liked for under $100 each. It wasn't even all that long ago.
Heck, maybe just ten years ago, brand new Yugo SKS rifles in the factory packing grease could still be had for not much more than $100 each. Now you'd be lucky to find one in like new condition for under $400.
Retrospectively, SKS rifles were probably one of the best gun "investments" of the past decade, and in terms of what they cost for what you got, they were always a bargain. It was really a case of yesterday's "junk" being today's treasure. They probably will still be cranking these out in China, even if they won't be allowed for import into the USA, but if you look at the European made ones, they're probably NEVER going to make those again (ever).
Heck even at $400, for a forged-receiver solid wood stock adjustable- sight European made semi-automatic military grade firearm? That's *still* a bargain, I think.0 -
The prices on the plain vanilla Chinese SKS's have gone up substantially over the years. I agree with you that $400 is a crazy price for a common Chicom. But if that's what their commonly going for in your locality? Jump on it, not likely there going to be any cheaper in the future. 0 -

Don't even think it won't happen,,for Gods sake---It will be flagged as Save The Children Law,, do not for a second think it won't happen-
And the SKS for 400 is about 100 to high --now,imo-0 -
Damn for $50 bucks more I could pick up a Russian one with a scope (if the rifle is still at the shop). 0 -
I didn't know the SKS was on the list that Putz put together. Why is that? I doesn't have a detachable hi-cap assault rifle magazine. ? 0 -

The current anti-gun goal is getting all semi-auto firearms out of the hands of the public.
Look at the original drafts of the 1994 "Assault Weapons" ban -- it was essentially a ban on all semi-autos. (The bill as eventually passed was a "watered down" compromise a lot less restrictive than what the writers wanted.)
There are those who are anti-gun who understand precisely what the meaning of the Second Amendment is. The Second Amendment is about having the citizens armed so they can overthrow the government, if need be.
The goal of certain anti-gun politicians is "unlimited political power"; they know that an armed citizenry is an impediment to their goal. They understand the nature of firearms and that rapid sustained firepower is a critical component in many types of military ground actions -- from both an assault and defense position. They know that if they can get semi-automatic firearms out of the hands of the population, they will have made a huge step toward achieving their goal of a population completely subservient to their power.
Just because they (those seeking to establish a criminal government) try at gun control measures and the result is "nothing got banned," doesn't change the facts that they are out there just waiting for the right opportunity to "scare" the public into accepting the sort of gun bans they know will leave us relatively helpless against their brutal goals.
That said, there is BS from some sellers in the firearms industry; my point is: don't become lax about the nature of the threat just because those wanting certain types of gun control haven't been successful in achieving it.0 -

Let me help with that.
The current anti-gun goal is getting all semi-auto firearms out of the hands of the public.
Gun banners want to ban all guns, period. Always have, always will. Focusing on semi-autos or high cap mags, or .50 cal rifles, or any other particular flavor of gun is just part of their incrementalist strategy.
But here's the thing. Gun ownership is at all all time high in the USA right now, and more Americans own AR-15s (and are shooting them) then ever before. More US States offer concealed carry options than ever before. If you look at every cross sectional poll, Americans are more pro-gun now than at any time in the last 50 years, and the trend is still increasing. The US Supreme Court (in Heller) has recently re-affirmed that the right to keep and bear arms is an individual right, like the right to free speech, etc.
The point is over many years of patient work the NRA and pro-gun groups have slowly, quietly, but surely won the argument. The American public largely supports the individual right to keep and bear arms. Americans remember what happened after Hurricane Katrina when there was effectively no law and order for a while, and there was looting, crime, etc.
The Democrats know that gun control is simply a massive losing political issue for them. That's why, even though they control the Senate AND the White House, (and earlier in Obama's term, the WH, Senate, and House) they still didn't introduce a comprehensive gun control bill. That's why when then speaker Pelosi was asked about a gun control agenda, she'd change the topic. That's why even though the proverbial iron is "hot" now after the recent tragedy in CT, the Senate is STILL not going to introduce a gun control bill.
Bottom line, yes, there are political factions out there that want to ban guns, and yes, you do have to keep on eye on them and what they are doing, but right now a new gun control bill simply isn't politically likely.
Edit:
Just saw this article by Byron York today. It confirms what I wrote above, namely that despite the vocal posturing, the Obama administration and the Senate Democrats really do NOT want to push a gun control agenda right now, because they know its political poison:
