ruger 44 carbine

I have a chance to get a ruger 44 carbine on a trade with a serial #5740 I have not seen the gun yet but I'm wondering how much would this gun be worth as I don't need it and would probably sell it and what I trading for it is worth $550 in elctronics that the other party wants.

    looking on gb and saw ads for ruger 44 carbines, pre and post warning. pls. explain pre/post warning on the ruge 44 carbine. thank.

    I just missed buying one here 2 days ago. He sold it for $460 which was a pretty good price for one in very nice condition. $500-550 and up for a real nice one. Hope to get one myself one day.

    Yeah, that is probably a good trade depending on the condition of the gun. If it doesn't have the barrel clamp on the front of the stock then it is for sure worth the $550.

    There are two versions of the Ruger .44 mag carbine. The early version uses a tubular magazine which is loaded from the bottom one round at a time. The newer "Deerfield" carbine, which I own, uses a detachable magazine similar to the 10-22 magazine but bigger.

    The older guns are probably more desirable since they are no longer made, but condition has everything to do with value.

    it is the tube feed from the bottom does the low serial # add to the value at all and I guess I won't see the gun until Sun.

    that sn is not low enough to matter a lot. price range seems high depending on condition.There is a pretty decent one for sale as a consignment gun for $439. That's a deal I know. Typically they sell for 5-600 if nice if the have a factory peep sight or have the sporter fingergroove stock especially if checkered, much more

    Actually, that serial is from '62 or '63 I think so it won't have all of the legalese stamped on the barrel... which may bring a small premium.

    FYI , neither of the 44 Carbines are made anymore , The Deerfield didn't last but a couple of years , and are already up around $1K .
