I've done a lot of m-97 work, the 'E' series was the last of the line and the best. I don't think they made a solid frame 'E' series, at least I've never seen one. That said, I don't know for sure but 'E' series parts are easyer to find. 0 -

I have a Win 97 E series, solid frame, S/N 815941 sitting on my bench right now.

There are a lot of "E" series solid frame guns out there... I have (153) of them documented in my research survey.
The "E" series began at serial numbers in the 418900 range, and continued through the end of production (at serial 1024701). The solid frame was discontinued just prior to serial number 900000 in the year 1937.0 -

Bill,
Your Model 97 was manufactured in December of 1926. It is the second highest solid frame serial number that I have encountered for a standard Field grade gun. There were a bunch of solid frame Riot Guns made in the 865000 - 899000 serial number range.0 -
