Bipod question :-D
So I've got my base and rings and scope all ordered and they should hopefully all be here inside of the next 7-10 days. Although I still need to get a bipod, that's one thing I haven't done a lot of researching on. The one I'm looking for is a simple spring loaded set that can deploy near instantly, also collapse them at a moment's notice, I don't know if they would be listed as a "tactical bipod". It seems everything these days is tactical lol, I'm looking for the ones that are generally used by the military/swat snipers. I know Blackhawk makes a few different kinds of them, I've seen a few in the in the $40-50 range, all the way upto about $100. Since I don't know much at all about bipods I don't know if the cheaper ones will work just as well as the more expensive ones and what not. I would really appreciate any advice/info you can throw my way. I'll be sure to take a few pics of the 700 XCR Tactical Long Range once it's all setup!

You may want to take a look at a Harris Swivel Bipod.
The are spring loaded, allow for use on an uneven rest, and are quick to deploy and stow.
Harris also makes a number of different mounting adapters to attach to almost any firearm.0 -
What position do you intend to use the bipod? A bipod suitable for prone or benchtop will be too low for sitting while one tall enough for sitting is too tall for prone.
I use Harris and shy away from anything labeled "tactical". The ones that allow some flex are handy for hunting but would not be my 1st choice for fixed position shooting.0 -

I used a Harris HBL 9"-13"on a 24" Colt Accurized rifle I had in years past. I found it to be rock solid, folded up quickly, and was easy to "deploy" when the rockchucks needed thinning out. Groups really shrink when a good rest like theirs is used. I didn't use a swivel bipod, just the regular one with adjustable length legs.
Besides being kinda pricy (at that time, they're about 80 bucks now), the only knocks are: they fold forward and can snag on stuff if you're carrying the gun through the woods, and they add some weight to the front end making the one-handed balance point change. Other than that, they're a nice set up.0 -

I do not know what kind of gun you are using, but I do not recommend the types that connect to the barrel if you are going for accuracy, get the type that connects to the stock or sling swivel screw and the leg length varies with the type of shooting heigth you desire.
The swivel type is desireable if hunting for uneven ground instances.
Uneven ground will result in only one leg being on the ground or the gun tilted if the bipod don't allow for swiveling.
I've bought Harris bipods at Gun shows very reasonable, less than 1/2 price of new ones, once I knew exactly what I was looking for in my desired application.
Once you determine the telescoping leg height you desire the NEW price of a Harris is well worth the price. On my very nice gloss wood stocks I take a piece of foam tape and cushion the Harris attachment before snug is applied to the adjustable retaining screw! You can also use the Harris for years and it's bullet proof in design, for a Bubba to use, almost.0 -
Ya, put in a second sling swivel stud on the forearm to mount it, leave the barrel mounts alone. 0 -
Buy the Harris, everything else is just a poor copy of the Harris design that do not give the same level of quality nor are they as steady. I have used all of the others along with selling several different designs for my customers. The only model that has never come back with a complaint has been the Harris. 0
