WINCHESTER M-12 28GA. (fake)
WINCHESTER M-12 28ga.
There are some being shown at aera Gun shows with Big price tags on them.
A M-12 Collector friend told me that they were puting M-12 28ga. barrels on 20ga.and engraving and enlaying,and then sending to
SIMMONS for Vent Ribs and Bluing.
Where are they getting the 28ga. barrels; and how can we tell them after SIMMENS gets finished with them?

Any expert should/would be able to spot a fake quite easily. Sounds to me like your friend is basing his opinion on hearsay. 0 -
If you think about it, it is unlikely that someone would put that much $$$$ into creating a fake (cost of original 20 guage, 28 guage barrel, simmons work and engraving.... where 's the profit???? 0 -
You can get a 20ga. for from $500.00 To $1000.00 depenging condition
SIMMONS $500.00 stock $500.00 Ingraving & Inleting
?You need a 28ga. barrel and barrel band
They are selling from 5K.---Up.
Where they cover it up is by removing the number from the barrel extention and then engraving over where the number was., You still have the SN # on the Receiver.
SIMMONS dose a super good blue job, so how are you going to tell?
I aways checked to see if the extention Number and Receiver (sn) match, but the receiver number is now an engraving.0 -

You would be surprised what lengths the morally corrupt gun dealers will do to make a buck[:0][:(!] I see too much of this type of fakery on a regular basis, and unfortunately, some of the people perpetrating the fakery are quite talented[V].0 -

I'd actually go to the point where I'll "blame the victims" to a certain extent -- not just in collectable firearms, but with the fraud that goes on with other things "collectable."
Some of the premiums some collectors are willing to pay for certain more rare items could almost be described as being irrational. I'm not justifying the fraud -- and will certainly defend the right of people to do whatever they want with their money -- but I still have to think, when seeing the amount people will pay for certain "collectable" things: "A fool and his money are soon parted."
I think the personal "emotional satisfaction" a person gets from collecting can sometimes move to a point of "boasting" ("showing off" to others) when the individual pays "crazy" premiums for certain items.0
