i have a 1903 03-a3 smith corona that was machined to .308 norma magnum. i think the extractor may be damaged but not sure. it looks like it was ground to that shape and not chipped. can i use the extractor off my smith corona 30.06 bolt or will i damage that one too?

  The original extractor would have been ground back to fit the .532 case head of the Norma. If you try to use a standard .473 extractor, it either won't allow the bolt to close or will break.

  Have you actually tried to extract a case? The Mauser style extractor looks broken, chipped on the bottom, tapered in the front when it is perfectly machined.

  MO is right on the money, the bolt and extractor have to be widened out to fit the belted Norma case.
  
  If yours is broken, it'll have to be altered as well.
