suppressors/NFA ?
I'm thinking about a suppressor (for a 308 and a 7mmTCU) but have a couple of questions. I know the $200 stamp/permit but I read about the manufacturing permit of $1000 per year. I have the knowhow/equipment to make my own (I'm really cheap, I figure why buy one if I don't have too) but do I have to get the manufactures permit to make it? I'm not going to manufacture any for sale, personal use only.

My understanding is that an individual only needs to pay $200 & get an ATF Form 1 approved.
Of course, if you don't complete the project, you don't get a refund.

As already noted, the manufacturing permit is for a business making and reselling them. I have my doubts that you'd be able to get a manufacturing permit if you wanted to just make suppressors for yourself. For making a suppressor for yourself you have to pay the $200 tax for each suppressor you made.
Also, as the market goes, unless you have some excellent machining skills, I doubt anyone would ever pay you anything for a "home made" suppressor. So remember any labor you've put into a home-built suppressor is something you'll probably never be able to get out of it again. (Compared to buying one from a known manufacturer, where you have resale potential -- but even that market can be limited since a sale outside of your state will involve two tax-stamps, adding roughly $400 to the cost of the transaction for the buyer.)0
