Engraved J. Stevens .32 RF
I acquired this rifle not too long ago. I assume from what I have seen that it is a Model 44. It has a half Octogonal/round barrel. What I find odd is that the receiver/barrel are not blued like others that I have seen and it is also engraved on the receiver. Is this some sort of special edition? This gun is not in the best condition I would guess maybe 50-60%?? If anyone has any more info they could give me on this rifle it would be greatly appreciated!

I can't say if the engraving is factory original or not? Don't know enough about the older Steven's guns.
The finish on the receiver doesn't look factory original to me though. The gray mat finish doesn't appear to be the factory original finish found on guns of that era. It's to even to be patina also. It almost appears to have been blasted with abrasive grit.0 -
Yes, it is a Model 44. However I would wager my autographed photo of President Obama that the engraving is not factory. The stock may have been changed as well as the fit is not correct. Stevens rifles usually have the major parts serial numbered so check for matching numbers on the frame, barrel and stock.

In my unsolicited inexpert opinion, that is about apprentice level engraving and not likely factory. Not bad looking, though.
It looks like a basic standard No 44 which came standard with color case hardened action
What are your plans for the rifle?
.22 LR? .32 centerfire? Wallhanger?0 -
I inherited this from my grandfathers collection. It will probably never get shot. I would like to make it a wall hanger, but have to convince the wife first! Hahaha 0 -

I would not say the artistic level is pro. The geese are very blocky and the buck looks like a Christmas ornament. Even the leaves are not very artistic. One set misses the stem. Putting the art aside the execution is not pro level.0 -
I will agree that it does not look like factory engraving. FYI Numerich Arms is supposed to be making a run of .32 Rimfire ammo next year so that may help. Family guns are always neat to hang on to. 0
