what's the differance between a K-22 and a model 17 smith.I just got a model 17-3 smith 6inch bbl. with TT TH and oversize grips the guy told me it's a K-22. How do you tell the differance.Also what year is this gun serail # 5K882xx Thanks for any help

17 is the model number assigned to the K-22 Masterpiece in 1957.
It is all the same gun except for the minor engineering changes indicated by the "dash number."
A lot of us old timers continue to call them by the old familiar name instead of number.
Your -3 was made sometime between 1967 and 1976 but I do not have the book to pin it down closer than that.0 -
