Try a toothpick in the detent groove.

added On a 1911 the slide stop is held in with a plunger powered by a spring. The plunger fits into a grove. Use toothpick as lever to push plunger back.

I'm sorry, I don't know what the detent groove is.

I think dude is saying the detent that keeps the slide stop in place is in the slide stop's rail groove that is preventing the silly thing to pop out fully.

Take a toothpick, paper clip to push the little nipple down while pushing the slide stop out. You might also use a chop stick to push the slide stop further or get a third hand for the assist.

I thank you but I tried and tried
    and broke toothpick after toothpick.
You see my biggest problem is, I'm brain dead.
Once I used the proper notch, easy as pie.[:I][:I][:I]
    Thanks-Ron

Good job, toothpicks are cheap and usually cause no damage.

Don't know the workings of your 45 but if it's on the same principle as the Colt 45 try this.

Get a nice soft pillow and lay the gun down on it.
Get a plastic hammer head and strike the slide stop pin that should protrude out a little on the other side. It may have to take a few whacks.
Do not use a metal hammer, punch or screwdriver. Good Luck

No, I had a brain fart and
    was using the wrong notch
in the slide trying to remove
    the slide stop.
What is really stupid on my
part is I went down cellar,
    got another 1911 and field
    stripped it in seconds.
Then I came back up and still couldn't
    field strip the new 45.-DUH!
