how to get guncote off metal
Help! Someone used bake on guncote to cover bare metal instead of rebluing the whole gun. It looks a little tacky. How do I get the guncote off so it can be reblued correctly?

Vapor blast it with plastic bead media. 0 -
Factory recommends aluminum oxide blast media around 120 mesh. Use at low pressure,40lbs, and will work fine. Try some acetone on it as the amatuer may not have even cured it properly. 0 -
You could try soaking in MEK if you have any left. 0 -
No MEK 0 -
Give a try with different solvents and 4-0 steel wool. I bought a used gun from a guy who previously had it 'professionally' coated with a bake-on finish, and I took the coating off with alcohol and fine steel wool, with little effort. With moderate hand pressure, the original blueing underneath was undisturbed. 0
