New Chinese SKS gun - opinions and identification
Greeting everyone. Purchased my new old stock Chinese SKS off GunBroker. Didnt get a great deal considering how cheap some are going for but I wanted a clean one, ready to fire, and didnt want tot wait for bidding (want it under Christmas tree ;^).
Its a arsenal /0223\ all matching part numbers. Althoug from the pictures it appears to read /26\. But the serials dont seem to match any of the guides so I was just looking to see if anyone can A) help narrow down any info on it and
offer an opinion on what they see superficially on the gun.
Probably going to replace floating pin with the Murray firing pin just for the heck of it. Anything else I should do right off, or just enjoy it?

According to Yoopers SKS site. http://yooperj.com/SKS-32.htm the Chinese raised their serial numbers 1 million every year. If that is correct your SKS would date to 84. Just at the start of the commercial SKS import boom.
They started cranking them out like hotcakes, and exporting them to the U.S. by the container load. Years ago when I still lived in calli, they use to have a big gun show at the LA county fair grounds. I remember seeing guys selling SKS's that were NIB, piled in boxes 4 feet high for $99.00 each. They had folks standing in lines waiting to get their hands on one.0 -

You will want to strip it down to ensure, among other things, that the gas piston system isn't all plugged up with cosmoline. While I'm sure you would enjoy it as a single shot rifle, my guess is that your shooting enjoyment would increase several fold if it functioned as the semi-auto it was designed to be. 0 -
Clean it( especially the gas tube and firing pin/bolt)and enjoy it

Yes, the fun days of the Great Western Shows at Pomona. You could also get 1,000rds of 7.62X39 for $89 back then. I have a couple SKS's I bought around that time.0 -
Nice SKS Carbine! Clean it and enjoy it. No need to replace the firing pin, just keep it clean and lightly lubed. When you shake the bolt, you should hear/feel the firing pin moving. After you clean the gas piston and tube, re-assemble them dry with no lube. Forget aftermarket parts, high cap magazines, scopes, etc. Your SKS will work best just as it is. All you need are some stripper clips. Congratulations on your purchase! 0 -

Too many nice SKS' have been corrupted.
I still have a 1968 mfg arsenal 406, imported about 20 years later, with my bill of sale ($100).0 -
SOG has earlier model Chinese SKS's with the blade bayonet and not the spike. I guess the ones with the blades are numbered less than 9 million. They are on the C+R list too. 0 -
Go shoot it before you invest in that firing pin modification.

Congrats..the advice for a full cleanout is HIGHLY recommended. It can get some serious cosmo or filings that a 'partial' cleaning would leave. Some will need more attention than others, so clean every part.
I find that hitting a skillet at 100 yards is normal accuracy.
Buy a few k-rounds before they get crazier.
