early colt factory custom 1911
I have a colt custom gun shop goverment model 70, model #01970-MN2, F.O.#1139 w/ specal customizing, as per the label on the shipping box. sn:70B2849x. This gun is S.S. and in very good condition. I can't find anything in books or on this site about this gun. Can any of you help me out?

+ 1 on letter from Colt I suspect it was made in 1983 or 1984. However I also believe it is electroless nickle NOT SS. Very good condition may be a big minus if electroless nickle and there is some damage almost impossible to repair damage and have gun look original. NIB with letter stating it is Stainless BIG $$. used [:(][:(]big lost in value to a collector. 0 -
I wouldn't worry about it. By definition, Colt Custom Shop guns are special orders: one of a kind, batches, even unique serial numbers. There are unlimited variations. At least, you have the original box with end label, which has all the information that could matter for a modern gun.

Colt never built the original Series 70 pistols in stainless steel. The finish is ColtGuard, an electroless nickel factory finish. The end label, if it is legitimate, should state the finish, perhaps with an abbreviation such as "CG" or "EN." 0
