I've just bought a DSA made FN FAL. Does anyone know of a good aftermarket source of parts such as wood stocks, grips, scope mounts & such. I've found a few good sources but no one that has struck me as outstanding.

I'd like to switch out the plastic for wood and mount a scope. Any suggestions helpful, this is my 1st FAL.

If it is ejecting and feeding, then it probably isn't a gas issue.

Open it up, pull trigger back, then pull hammer back while still holding the trigger as if your 3rd hand is hte bolt/bolt carrier.

Is the hammer staying back? Is the trigger resetting?

I'd also ask on falfiles.com - lots of knowledgable falsmiths over there

Been building FALs since Clinton's first term.

It's quite possible that the gas adjustment isn't turned "down" enough and that the rifle will eject and reload but not cock the hammer because the carrier isn't going back far enough. Try turning it all the way to the right until the gas vent hole (right behind the front sight) is completely covered by the gas nut. (L1A1s gas nut turns to the left and has a stop at it's 0 position)

It's also possible that the gas tube was not installed with the little pin which keeps it from rotating. When they rotate the gas is starved and the rifle won't function right or will function intermittently.

OR...it could be that the disconnector or disconnector spring is weak/wrong/broken/etc...and the disconnector is not catching the hammer notch when it comes back but allowing the hammer to "follow". This is usually indicated by a light strike on the primer of the second round.

Barzilla hit on something. Typically there is enough gas in an FAL gas system (provided the gas nut is closed all the way) to overcome sloppyness in the gas tube to gas piston fitment...

However, there are lots of old Tapco gas pistons (922r part) which are several THOUSANDTHS undersized, resulting in too much blowby. Also, if it's an L1A1 the British gas pistons are oftimes worn out/worn down.

The DSA gas piston is about .001" oversized.

Also, there's a slew of old Century two-piece gas pistons which are total junk, sometimes just undersized, sometimes they bend under the flexing pressure of the firing cycle.
