Loads for 80 gr Barnes bullet 380 ACP??
I am looking for some loads for the 380ACP with the Barnes 80 gr leadfree bullet. There are two loads on the Barnes site but neither are for a powder I have. I have Bullseye, 231, HS-6, and Unique. Can anyone help?
The Buffalo Bore site shows this bullet going 1275 fps out of their +P...anyone verify? Any idea what powder and load they are using? My Sierra, Hornady and Speer books don't show anything close, but none of them show loads for the Barnes leadfree bullet.

Years ago I loaded maximum velocity loads, with light bullets that I made myself, for different cartridges.
You will have to use your fastest burning powder, either Bullseye or 231. Personally I would use 231 as it's a ball type powder and measures much more accurately then BE.
Because the amount of powder required is much higher then the loads recommended by the manufacturers. I doubt anybody will be giving you them on the net for liability reasons.
Since .380's are usually short barreled unlocked breech pistols. These type of high velocity, high pressure loads, create objectionable muzzle blast. And might be dangerous, unless you work up to them very cautiously.0 -
AA#2 sounds good. $20 for a can seems like a worth while deal to work with known data.

Because the .380 is such a small capacity cartridge case, powders with the smallest, densest physical size have to be used. Although their might be powders with a faster burning rate in Hodgdon's chart. If they take up to much space in the .380 case, their faster burning rate is of no use.0 -
Given the small case capacity and lack of sufficient load data, I would start judiciously with Alliant's recipe of 3.4 grain of bullseye for a 90 grain bullet, or Winchester's load of 3.2 to 3.5 for the 231, and test function. If that worked, I'd just call it a day, if not I'd be ok with increasing by .2 grains, but probably no more. Given the small case capacity and minimal bullet weight difference, the max loads aren't going to differ that much. 0
