Scope Choice
Due to having "old eyes" I will be installing a scope on a recently aquired Ruger .44 Carbine. What do you guys & gals reccomend? Straight 4 power or a variable. It will be a quality scope not a Wal-Mart special.

I have narrowed my scope choice for my Remington .308 down to 2 scopes in my price range. The scope will be used for tactical urban/light rural applications. I am looking at a Weaver Tactical 3-15x or a Burris XTR 3-12x. Has anyone had any bad experiences with either and recommend one over the other? Thanks. 0 -
Go with a 1X4 or 1.5X5 power. You don't need higher than those.
I put a 1.5X5 on my Marlin 44mag for hog hunting.0 -
i prefer fixed power scopes, but they are getting scarcer than hens teeth in quality scopes. On a 44 mag carbine I'd go with a 3x, a used Leupold if I could find one- if needed it an be sent to Oregon for repair. 0 -
I like the way Ray thinks. 0 -
I had a 1.5 x 5 on a Belgium BAR in 30-06. On low I could see 1/2 the bbl in the sight picture. Was very handy. 0 -
I have a Ruger 77/44 & i mounted a Leupold 1x4 VARI X II gold ring.
it is super sweet.Small yet powerful and clear optics.
You will not regret it.[;)]0 -

I have 2 one has a older redfield wide view 1 3/4-5 the other a leupold 2-7 compact 0 -
Keep it small in size and power. I use a vintage Weaver Micro-Trac widefield 1.5-4.5X on my 44 carbine. 0 -
Just remember that you can not shoot any better than you can see;
You need both field of veiw and power.
LEUPOLD 1.5 x 5 and Dual Dovetail mounts is the way that I would go.
do not over lock light the light garrering of the LEUPOLD vers the Red-dot.
Also most of your Hunting shooting will be at the first daybreak and just befor dark.0
