.17 HMR muzzle velocity
My TC Contender .17HMR has a 23" factory barrel.
It's probably the straightest shooting short range rifle I own, but is muzzle heavy and looks ridiculous.
I'm thinking of having it lopped off and recrowned to 18"-20" but don't want to give up any velocity.
I only shoot Hornady 17g V-Max loads in it.
Anyone know what the optimum barrel length would be for this cartridge?

I think you will loose some velocity, do they make a short barreled load? I'd be preparied to also live with some accuracy loss too. Might get better, stay the same or get worse but rest assured you will never put that piece of bbl back on. Second, not really a option to custom load for rimfires to regain the sweet spot. 0 -
I would go to rimfire central I know from studies done by many people that a 22 Long rifle actually loses velocity in a barrel over 20 inches
because all the powder has burned and friction of bullet in the bore slows the bullet down . I am sure someone has done studies on your cartridge the 17.0 -
Maybe this will help....
