E. M. Sick/Skelp Shotgun
A friend of mine brought over an old side by side shotgun, and I don't know anything about this particular one. It's marked E. M. Sick in Gunzberg on the barrel rib about 3 inches from the receiver, it's an underlever, about 6 inches long. It has no markings on the outside of the receiver. Appears to be about a 16 gauge, has damascus barrels, with external hammers. Also has what looks like factory sling swivels on it. Barrel looks to be not quite 32 1/4" long, and it has a cheek piece on the left side of the stock. My friend claims someone told him it was French, and probably dates around 1860 to 1870 range. Does anyone out there have any information about this maker?

Your gun's German, not French and if an underlever a breechloader, probably dating from 1870s or later.
Proof testing wasn't mandatory in Germany until 1890, which explains lack of marks.
Gunzberg is a city SE of Stuttgart.0
