Enfield ID Help
I am looking for a good source of reference material to properly ID Enfield rifles. My current best source is the limited info in the Standard Catalog of Military Firearms. I have a 30 gun collection to decipher & I find these rifles very confusing. Can anyone recommend a good reference book or website?

You might consider GOOGLEing prior to springing for any reference books. A cursory search using "enfield rifles" as the search term turned up a couple of Lee Enfield collectors/enthusiasts forums. Many of these forums maintain permanent reference "STICKYS" for identification purposes. 0 -
There are some good Enfield reference books out there but the two I like are by Charles R. Stratton published by North Cape Publications. Vol 1 covers "SMLE (No.1) Rifles Mk 1 and Mk III" (ISBN 1-882391-16-0), vol 2 covers No. 4 and No. 5 (ISBN 1-882391-24-1). Hope this helps. 0 -
Thanks for the advice; I bought those 2 books plus 1914/1917 by the same author at a gun show this weekend. Let the learning begin! 0 -
