Firing pin extension.

I have an unfired CZ527 bolt action carbine in 7.62x39. The firing pin protrudes almost 1/8". I am not going to fire it until I shorten the pin. Also the pin is tapered to a fairly sharp point. I think that this looks like a pierced primer waiting to happen. This rifle came directly from the CZ distributor. I think that with the pin rounded with the extension through the bolt face set at .040 to .050 should work safely. What say the experts.

    CZ is not in the habit of making guns that are unsafe. is this rifle NEW [?]can you compare it to others of the same make and model[?] &.62 X 39 ammo has been noted for hard primers . I for one don't try to second guess how guns are made. I would pull a few bullets and dump the powder then fire the primer only and look at what the dent in the primer looks like. FIRST before modifying any new part that you might have a hard time finding a replacement if you ruin the original.

    Sounds long and sharp to me. Perhaps it didn't the final treatment. Take a good pic and email CZ.

    edit Wow that sucks. Quality control at CZ must not be so good these days. You would think that after two returns someone there would hand select a rifle without that issue. Maybe there aren't any.

    I would think a phone call to CZ might be in order.

    you know all this, without even firing the gun? it is in 762x39, hardly a heavy recoiling gun. take it outside, point it in a safe direction, put one live round in it, and close the bolt. if it works good, leave it alone. every single gun made is test fired at the factory. thats not to say one didnt slip through, but i doubt it.

    Most bolt actions pull the pin back when the rifle is cocked and hold it there until you pull the trigger Looks like the pin would be retracted into the bolt when it takes a round off of the magazine and chambers it. Cock the rifle and see if the pin is retracted a safe distance into the bolt?

    I bought a new CZ527 in 7.62x39. Running a patch through the bore prior to firing for the first time, I found a bulge in the bore at the point where the rear sight boss was hammer forged along with the rest of the barrel in the rifling process. I returned the carbine to CZ distributor and recieved another new carbine. That carbine unfired was returned to CZ for the same bulge. The third carbine (new) was recieved with the same bulge at the rear sight mounting. Frustrated to the tenth, I rebarreled the carbine to 6mm PPC. Prior to test firing the carbine the first time I discovered the firing pin problem. I probably should have mentioned this in the first post but tried to keep the post short.

    I would have shot at least one of these CZ carbines to see how this bulge affected accuracy. A number of years ago I ran into a guy shooting one at are local range who was quite happy with it. Most of the 7.62 X 39 ammo I have shot over the years including the commercially made U.S. stuff, is not high quality target ammo. In light of this, it's questionable how much affect this bulge would have on its potential for accuracy.

    I was not concerned with the initial accuracy of the carbine. What about the gas erosion at that point in the bore after repeated firings? The rest of the little carbine is delightful. NRA inquiries indicate that abnormalties of this type only worsen over firings.
