bowhunting may get more interesting
Yesterday, I went to retrieve a gutted deer carcass that we left in the field since it was almost dark and nearly impossible to reach with the ATV after dark. When this happens, I hang an article of clothing, backpack, or something with lots of human odor right over the carcass to deter coyotes. Combination of scent and movement has always worked. Not this time. Upon reaching the kill site, I found the carcass covered with leaves and about 5# eaten off a hindquarter.
That made me do a quick 360* before I even stepped of the Polaris.
I know we have bobcats here but I didn't think bobcats did the covering thing. I've seen that in Montana and saw the tracks of what did it-about the size of a saucer.

Don't be afraid of a little mountain lion, they are your friends. 0 -
When I was in SD deer hunting I was told if I found the same thing to get the heck outta there.
They said the cougars don't leave their kill too long.0 -
I had a loaded rifle across my lap and did a full 360* before stepping off the ATV. If I do any more bowhunting after the rifle season, I'll probably carry a noise maker. 0 -
I hunt just north of Kansas City and saw what I believe to be the same bobcat two days in a row. At dusk running across the bean field and the next day it walked by my morning stand in the timber. Absolutely gorgeous grey and white color and just a joy to watch stalk through the woods. 0 -
Black panther reported seen in our hunting club last Thursday about 10 AM. 0 -
Here East more likely to find a 2 legged creature loading your kill in his vehicle... 0
