Were Colt Model 1917 DA 45 revolver pistols made with case hardened lanyard rings and hammers?

  any info on colt double action, 2 1/2 barrel, no front on trigger guard,has us army model 1917 on bottom of butt.

  Most likely a miitary pistol that had the barrel cut off to make a BELLY gun Should be chambered in 45ACP and use MOON Clips or 45AUTO RIM ammo. No real collector value but will make one hell of a carry pistol.

  This is what the original military issue Colt Model 1917, should look like. If yours has a short barrel and cut trigger guard, it's been bubbaed by some shade tree gunsmith.

  Thanx,thats it,just shorter,and no front on trigger guard,must have a totally different barrel on it,wow!!thanx again.

  Need pics for sure . I seem to remember some guns as you describe being known as "Fitz Specials " being an early attempt at creating a easily concealable revolver.If it could be authenticated as an original it could be very valuable .then again Bubba prob saw it in a magazine and out came the hacksaw

  A Fitz Special done at Colt by or for Mr Fitzgerald is a valuable gun.
  A sawn off army surplus is worth very little.
  
  There are ways to tell if it is a factory job or not.
  Show pictures.

  I can't think of a New Service model that came with such a short barrel, chances are it was cut down from something. Some folks did an excellent job of doing the barrel work. I had one with a "half moon" front sight that was very, very well done.
